Special Congratulations go to Dylan Barrett, (6th class) who has reached level G English while still in Primary School. This is Kumon’s benchmark for successful progress as years of experience demonstrate that students who attain it, remain proficient at all higher level English at secondary school. Dylan is studying advanced English comprehension and reading a wide variety of texts across different genres with each varying in style, structure, subject matter and the use of figurative language. Kumon recognises this accomplishment with an award.

KUMON Student of the Month: Each month we recognize one student. The Student of the Month for last month is… Lucy Conlon-Oates A 4th class student, Lucy has been on the maths program for a year. During this time she has worked extremely hard completing nearly six levels and is about to move on to fractions. Additionally her study skills, focus and perserverance have improved immensely. Lucy is always willing to do the workload presented to her and completes work daily, sometimes up to 10 sheets a day. Here at Kumon we can see a massive improvement in Lucy’s maths commencing with work well below school level to now working nearly one year ahead. Keep up the good work! Lucy!

Class Mathathon! In place of class on Sat 17th we will have a Mathathon! This is a fun activity where our students will complete as many “easy” sums as they can in ten minutes. If the child is a maths student, they will complete work that is much easier than their present level, whereas if they are an English student they will also complete easy maths but it will be chosen according to their age/school year. Whether a maths and/or English student, students will come to class as normal on Saturday but will not do any class work. Instead they will swap over their completed Kumon for new Kumon homework and then take part in the Mathathon. Please be in class 12:30 at the latest to make sure you can take part. All students taking part will receive • A Mathathon certificate displaying the number of sums they completed in the 10 min. • There will also be prizes for all school years, boys and girls who answer the greatest number of sums correctly. We hope to make it as enjoyable as possible for everyone and remember that it is the taking part that counts! Good luck and have fun!
