Ireland's Ancient East

North Louth has two magnificent Anglo-Norman Castles, King John's Castle in Carlingford and Castle Roche just beyond Faughart where Edward Bruce's Scots-Irish army was defeated and he himself killed in 1318 - his remains are interred in Faughart cemetery. There's lots to see locally for all with an interest in our Medieval history - visit Carlingford Tourist Office for maps and guides!
