Training and exercise, practising Judo - the 'gentle' or 'flexible' way. Judo is ....  a sport, an art, a discipline, a recreation, a fitness program, a means of self-defense or combat, a philosophy, and a way of life.

But most of all, Judo is fun. We practise fighting so that we don't have to.

Kodokan Judo comes to us from the fighting systems of feudal Japan. Dr. Jigoro Kano (right), President of the University of Education, Tokyo studied these ancient forms and in 1882 distilled what he considered to be the best of their non-lethal techniques into what is now the modern sport of Judo.

Notice to all parents: Yesterday evening we had 17 judokas on the mat, yet we only had 13 recorded - and presumably paid for - in the book. It is not only important for us, but for the welfare of all children in the club to have both their attendance recorded and a contact number in case of emergency. Thanks, Giles, Children's Officer, OJC.
