Child Protection Training for Counsellors/Psychotherapists
This is a one day workshop that will enable counsellors and psychotherapists to have a clear understanding of how to recognise, respond, record and report child protection and welfare concerns in line with Children First Guidelines (2011). This is also a beneficial workshop for those working exclusively with adults as it will cover how to deal with retrospective disclosures made by clients. Participants from other sectors are welcome, however group discussion will be aimed at child protection dilemmas faced in the therapeutic environment. All other content in the workshop will be applicable to all sectors. Date of Training: Saturday 14th January 2017 Time of Training: 09:30 - 16:00 Location: Newbridge, Kildare (25 minutes from Dublin) Learning Outcomes: Pariticpants will walk away with a clear understanding of current legislation and policies that guide best practice in terms of child protection. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the 4 different types of abuse named in Children First and typical signs of abuse. Participants will understand how best to respond to any disclosures of child abuse. Participants will walk away with an understanding of how to record child protection concerns. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how and who to report to including discussion around the HSE/TUSLA standard report form. This workshop will involve group excercises, sample case study analysis, and particpant feedback to the larger group. This workshop is being facilitated by Mark McGuire, Director of CPD Ireland. Mark has been an accredited member of the IACP for the past 6 years and holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy, a H.Dip. in Applied Social Studies, a Professional Ceritificate in CBT, a Post Grad Certificate in Child and Adolescent CBT (From the Beck Institute), and is in the final stages of an M.A. in Child, Youth and Family Studies. Mark is currently a director of Kildare Counselling Service, a service which he founded. He is also the Managing Director of Pathways Ireland, a nationwide children's residential service catering to teenagers with complex and challenging behaviours referred through the child protection services in Ireland.
Professional Cert in CBT
It is expected that this course will provide the student with an understanding of cognitive behavioural therapy with young people. Through a blended learning approach incorporating theory and experiential exercises students will become familiar with this therapeutic approach and its place in the world of therapy with young people. Students will learn how to structure sessions, work collaboratively with young people in addressing concerns through situation, thought & feeling analysis using the latest advances in the field direct from the USA. This course is suitable for those already qualified in the area of psychological well-being (counselling & psychotherapy), social care, social work, guidance counselling, psychiatry, and teaching. Student assessment will include a 2,000 word case study showing the application of theory to practice (submission date will be agreed with students). Students are required to complete 20 client hours with clinical supervision with a course approved supervisor. Full attendance, the completion of client hours, clinical supervision and the case study are necessary in order to receive the Professional Certificate in Child & Adolescent Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Dates & Times: Cost: €750.00 Friday: 25th November 16th December & 13th Jan'17 @ 6.30p.m. to 9.30p.m. Saturday: 26th November 17th December & 14th Jan'17 @ 10a.m. to 4.30p.m. Location: Newbridge (This training may run in other locations dependent upon numbers upon request) Course facilitator: Linda McGuire MA, MIACP. Has led university level degree programmes throughout Ireland in the field of counselling & psychotherapy and addiction counselling. She was Counselling Coordinator of a large HSE funded service for young people aged 11-25 and their families and in addition has worked within schools for over 15 years. Over the last three years Linda has studied with the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Philadelphia USA completing their advanced training in this specialised area.
