Photos from Nenagh Friends of Palestine's post

Late on the night of Friday 5th August a bus returning from a football match in Galway pulled into a nondescript housing estate in Nenagh and dropped off one of those who had attended the game earlier that evening .The mother opened the door to greet her son who had enjoyed a fantastic night with the young players and coaches of the Al Helal Academy .The scene could not have been more normal save for the fact that the team in question are from Palestine and live in an area known as the Gaza Strip. As the mother talked about how nice Ayed and the kids were, who by this time were standing in her kitchen i could not but think how proud i was to be from Ireland and Nenagh in particular where humanity trumps bigotry every time.

Our visitors have made it home - and are given a hero's welcome -

facebook.com

Our friends from Gaza are about to board their plane back home. Our hearts go with them – they have won them. In a week or so, when the dust settles, we will meet to take stock of their visit, and of the great support offered by the people of Nenagh and of Ireland. The Al Helal Football Academy wants to build sustainable links with football clubs and academies in Ireland – they see this as a way of offering opportunity to young people from Gaza – we want to help build those links. Gaza abú!!!

Just an amazing collection of photos by Tom Doherty from Saturday's games between Nenagh Afc and Nenaghceltic Footballclub and visiting Palestinian players from the Al Helal Football Academy in Gaza. Thanks Tom for capturing what it's all about - young people playing football. Thanks to both clubs for making our visitors feel so welcome.
