The President of the High Court commented recently on the correct procedure for all documents to be correctly sworn. The Affidavit needs to be sworn or affirmed in front of a Commissioner for Oaths or Solicitor. He emphasised the fact that a person must swear on the Bible or other religious text to the veracity of the document. Where an individual does not wish to swear on a religious text or is a non-believer they must give formal affirmation to the veracity of the document.
