Murphy's Abbey Pharmacy is a family owned and run business in Mitchelstown (originally located on Lower Cork Street but now located beside the Tesco store) established by William Murphy more than 100 years ago, in 1908.He died in 1918 during the Spanish FLu Pandemic.For the next twenty years the Pharmacy was managed by Mr Cummins a native of Ballymote Co Cavan.When WIlliam's son Gerard (M G) qualified as a Chemist he returned to manage the business with his wife Maisie also a qualified Chemist.Their son Peter qualified as a Pharmacist with a degree From UCD in 1976 an returned to Mitchelstown to work with his parents.
