Celtic roots & the Sacredness of Place A talk by Dara Molloy Come to Charlie’s ¨firelit¨ backroom for the exciting launch of a new summer series on Celtic traditions, Christianity, and the Power of Place Wednesday, July 24, 8.30pm Door 5 euro. Gaffney’s Restaurant, Louisburgh Refreshments and tapas served Dara Molloy, ordained a Catholic priest, announced in 1996 his departure from Roman Catholicism. He also announced that he was remaining a priest and would continue to conduct services in the Celtic tradition. This created a great amount of national publicity at the time. Dara performs Celtic spiritual ceremonies, especially weddings, and acts as a guide to pilgrim groups visiting the island of Inis Mór. His publications include Legends in the Landscape and The Globalisation of God: Celtic Christianity’s Nemesis.

Tapas Talks @ Charlie's Back Room Friday August 24th 5pm Up next: a night of Poetry and music featuring Marian Kilcoyne andBrian Parsons. Marian Kilcoyne​ is an Irish writer based on the west coast of Ireland. She has been widely published in multiple works across the US and Ireland. Recently short-listed for the Dermot Healy International prize for poetry, Marian will read for us a collection of her work. Louisburgh resident Brian Parsons​ is formally-trained in Classical Guitar but developed a strong connection with Spanish/Flamenco styles when he lived in the South of Spain. Brian's laid back eclectic set ranges from flamenco to bossanova and from Beatles to jazz. He composes his own pieces and likes to put a different slant on well-known classics. A series of thought provoking conversations, poetry, discussion and music in Charlie’s firelit back room at Gaffney’s Restaurant Louisburgh. Refreshments, tapas and a little seafood will be served on the night.

Standing room only last night for our first tapas talk @ Charlie's. Great discussion with Frances Weber about immigration and the ethical and legal challenges of working in the field. Up next we have Jane Suiter, political scientist, journalist, and Director of the Institute for Future Media. Jane will be discussing Trump, Brexit and the future of democracy in an era of fake news.
