facebook.comLongford Greyhounds Ltd statement: Longford Greyhounds Ltd would like to sincerely thank all those who contributed to the Track Supporters fund to keep Longford racing . We would also like to thank the organising committee who have done great work, owners, trainers, the general public and the businesses of Longford who have shown that Longford track has a great resolve. We are happy to announce that the works to the track are scheduled to be completed on the 21st of September on which we are planning to recommence a full racing and trial schedule. A word of thanks to Longford Fire Dept who have been very helpful throughout, to our local councillors, to Howard Wallace the landlord who continues to support us, and the IGB for their continued support .
As the track is closed for the next few weeks any identity cards which were left in the office have been transferred to the Mullingar track racing office and are available for collection from there.
* Message from the Track Supporters Club*: A quick summary of the meeting held last night: There was a large turnout including 2 local councilors. We really appreciate them coming and offering their help and advice. €34,000 has been raised to date ... an amazing achievement in such a short time! Thanks to each and every one of you who has contributed...not just in Ireland but from friends in the UK, Europe and the USA. Fundraising will continue. The track will have to remain closed until the electrical work and fire safety measures have been completed. There can be no trials or racing during this time. The estimated cost of these works is now around €27,000. It was unanimously voted to spend this money now and get the work done. A further meeting will be held with the Fire Officer asap with the view to getting the track open again as soon as possible. Thanks again to everyone who has helped Longford Greyhound Stadium! One thing is for sure ..everyone wants the same thing ...to get the track back open and racing again as soon as we can.
There will be a meeting at the Longford Arms Hotel at 7pm on Monday 26th August to discuss the future of the track.

What an exiting Derby final we had last night! Hot favourite Lemon Patsy set the pace early and looked a winner down the back straight.. but Niall Foley's Zaconey Hulk had other ideas! The Hulk took off in the home straight and got up to win by a half a length in 30.01, claiming the €5000 prize for the Foley family. It was lovely to have the family and friends of Liam Clancy and Harry Ryan with us to remember our dear friends. Both families presented the trophy to Niall and Eric Foley. Well done to connections !
Trials go ahead as normal tomorrow morning
Congratulations to Zaconey Hulk! Winner of the Liam Clancy &Harry Ryan Memorial Longford Derby! Well done Niall Foley 👍
