facebook.comSome of you will know the absolutely devastating feeling to come across a scene like this, those who don't can imagine. This was the scene we were met with in Roscommon last March. We found ourselves in the centre of this, up to our knees in muck trying to come up with a solution for all these equines. There was only one solution, there was no way we were leaving them behind. The site was probably one of the worst we've come across. Those poor animals had been there for months. Not a scrap of feed, exposed to the elements truding their way through dirt and muck day in day out. It was heartbreaking. We loaded them and brought them to the safety of HHO. Intially we saw a little filly heavy in foal our hearts sank that the poor girl would have foaled in this hell hole. Upon assessment little Sam was moved to a foster home to have her foal in peace, away from the ever busy HHO yard. Time passed and she did foal, how she did it we'll never know, a healthy filly foal. Not much more than a baby herself and her condition extremely poor. We named that foal Lucky Star, the reason being, we counted our Lucky Stars that morning she wasn't born in to that hell. She'd never suffer the way her mother did, that she would never know the hunger and pain her mother went through, that she was healthy despite the total lack of care her mother received. With every day Lucky Star got stronger, little Ms. Independent always sniffing out how she could have some fun. Her mother Sam, ever at her side, we would often see Sam rushing to keep Lucky Star safe and out of trouble. After a few months it was time for Sam and Lucky Star to join our big herd of mares and foals. Sam was still quite withdrawn from the neglect she received but Lucky Star came in to herself, always playing, always curious, the picture of total innocence, completely ignorant to what could have been for her. The time came for Lucky Star to be weaned from Sam and again we counted our Lucky Stars as she was adopted. Lucky Star arrived to her forever home yesterday, where she will live with another HHO foal and they will grow up together. Her life will will only get better. Sam isn't quite ready to be adopted so she will stay with us for another while. It's Sam's time to relax, to simply do nothing other than to be a pony. Good luck our little Lucky Star, we're so proud of you.
Training day. But not sure who training who. One of this year's little foals looking for a forever home. Please share, support our work we have many of these unwanted little pets.

These 2 were on the railway near woodlawns Galway train station on the track. but thanks to the Garda and HHO we made the line safe. These 2 strays nearly cost lives, not chipped, Also the mare had a rope hanging out of her nearly taking her eye out. Legislation needs to be enforced.
And they just keep arriving stallion not chipped stray donkey from Leitrim, very quiet, about 4 years old, another unwanted, poor man We need legislation enforced now, just dumped like rubbish

Unwanted, these poor donkeys we're 3 days with no food or water, mares heavy in foal and a baby at foot WHY?
With Winter heavy on our heals, we are urgently appealing for foster homes. We would like to hear from you if you have that little bit of extra room and could take a HHO horse until next spring! Do you want to help but can't take a long-term pony on? Do you have experience to help an unwanted animal on it's journey home? Foster is vital for so many ponies, not ever pony is suited to a rescue environment, it can be too busy, too many changes and all in all too stressful. Some ponies just need a home from home! Can you help? Please get in touch to discuss!
Over 12000 people have seen our post about the mules needing new homes, we have only had one serious home offer. Maybe we can all share again in the hopes of finding homes.
