The application deadline for entry on to the PME (Technology Education) programme is 26th February 2017. If you and any of your peers would like me to visit your institution to chat with you about the process over the next couple of weeks can you please let me know. The Application Deadline for the PME (Technological Education) is 26th February 2017. Applications will continue to be accepted after the closing date for any remaining places on the programme. Please contact me at diarmaid.lane@ul.ie if you have any questions

Embarking on the teaching career path is a major step! Your experience as a student will probably be very different to the experience of teaching. Over the next few weeks, it would be very beneficial for any potential PME applicants to make contact with their local second level school and find out if there might be an opportunity to shadow and observe some of the DCG, Construction Studies or Engineering / Technology teachers for a few days.

In order to qualify as a second level teacher of Construction Studies you need to meet the requirements set out by the Teaching Council of Ireland. If you meet the required criteria for Construction Studies you will also be deemed to have acquired the competency to teach Materials Technology (Wood) at Junior Cycle. In order to qualify as a second level teacher of Design and Communication Graphics (DCG) you need to meet the requirements set out by the Teaching Council of Ireland. The PME at UL covers requirement number 3 in the attached. Aligning your previous study with the necessary credit requirements can sometimes be confusing.
