BA Fashion Knitwear and Textiles
LC114 This new programme in Fashion Knitwear and Textile offers students the opportunity of training in fashion knitwear design and production within the clothing /garment sector. It also focuses on areas beyond fashion and clothing i.e. accessories, interior and fine art textiles.
The popularity of Knit as an option with-in the existing BA in Fashion Design programme is evidenced by previous successes of Fashion students in recent knit competitions. e.g., RDS Competition in Knit and Crochet (2011) Persil Fashion Awards (2010 and international Feel the Yarn and Mittelmoda competitions.
Graduates who have specialized in knit include Orlaith O’Connor and Katarzyna Wypych who have shown their graduate knit collections in Shanghai (2010) and Washington DC (2010).
However, there is an increased demand for the knit specialization in Fashion at both Irish and inter-national level, and this program aims to meet this growing need through a mixture of design education, skills training and work placement.
