"There was a shed being set up in rural Ireland, in a small town and the guy who was setting it up took a phone call from a guy enquiring about the Sheds one evening. He could tell that the guy at the other end of the phone was a bit shaky and lacking in confidence. He asked him to come along to the next meeting and said he could bring a friend. After a moment’s hesitation the other guy said; ‘I don’t have any’. So quite quickly, he replied, ‘Well, you do now’. And that captures what the shed’s about very quickly for me.” - John Evoy (Founder of Irish Men's Sheds) Hear more about John's personal story and find out how you can start or join a Men's Shed in your community..... https://www.changex.org/blog/fighting-isolation-and-loneliness-in-men-the-extraordinary-power-of-the-mens-shed/
Poem: Mens Shed This Poem was written by a Shed member from another Shed. I used to be a loner, A little bit depressed, Some anxiety, some issues, Same as the rest. My marriage had suffered, Things got tough, She left, I cried, it was rough. But all that time, there was a place Some where to go and show my face. Whether sad or blue, rich or poor, They always had an open door. They helped me live as a single man. They showed me love, they showed me I can. They show you support they never question. They taught me some valuable lessons. I can do crafts, I can carve wood. I mow the lawn, though, not as much as I should. I now have a smile when I walk through the door. My eyes are no longer glued to the floor. It's fun, it's friendly and everyone can see. Just what the Mens Shed means to me.
