Should be a great event to highlight a very critical concern, and not just for local residents here in Dooradoyle and Raheen, but for all communities of Limerick and Clare who live within the fallout zone of these toxins. Unlike the dust we are all used to here in these parts of Limerick, nobody will notice these toxic particles fall. They will be just figures manipulated on a spreadsheet and hidden in reams of data. And that's assuming fit for purpose air quality monitoring is in place.

A very strong and very positive statement... very well said!

Stop Irish Cement burning tyres
https://uplift.ie/irish-cement/
We are asking all residents to please sign the petition objecting to the plan to incinerate tyres and other plastics in our community. Petition is at Trisha's shop. Objections should be made by Tuesday May 31st. See further details below: "Chairman Denis Ryan and committee member Mark Crowley attended this public meeting on behalf of Gouldavoher residents association. The meeting was well attended and the audience included representation from most residential areas/resident groups in the community, as well as all of our local councillors (Malachy McCreesh, James Collins, Daniel Butler, Joe Leddin) and T.D Willie O’Dea. There was a unanimous voice in the room and that voice called for a halt to the plans to proceed with the incinerator at Mungret until genuine health concerns are addressed to the satisfaction of members of the local community. To summarise the meeting it was agreed that there was no personal issue with Irish Cement. The concern arises from the fact that there has been no real data produced to substantiate claims that the burning of used tyres and other plastics was a safe practice. A number by-products from the incineration of tyres and plastics are not listed in the environmental impact statement and more alarmingly there appears to be no monitoring or no guidelines on “safe limits” for these toxins either in the environment or direct impact on the health of young and old in the communities. Furthermore concerns were raised that the kiln at the plant was fit for purpose as it was not designed to burn these materials or more importantly to capture the toxins/particles released into the atmosphere from the combustion of these substances. This issue becomes more important with the plan to situate 3 schools and a public park in the shadow of the cement plant. There are also extensive residential plans for this area as part of the southern environs plan. Chairman Denis Ryan expressed his disappointment that residents from Gouldavoher were not invited to the initial meeting to discuss the proposal, despite the fact that we are within 2 km of the proposed incinerator. He also pointed to the evidence of regular “blow out’s” that he has experienced here in Gouldavoher over the years and asked what would be the impact in future where the plant plans to incinerate these toxic materials. Residents are being asked to sign the petition to stop the incinerator plans for the cement plant at Mungret until a full environmental impact statement is completed to the satisfaction of the residents of the communities. We have placed a petition in “Trisha’s” shop and we are urging people to sign it. The petition must be submitted next week as first phase of planning concludes then. We are also asking individuals to go online to the EPA site and request that an open forum is held to discuss our concerns. Gouldavoher Residents Association"
