Congratulations to our colleague Dr Mairéad Ní Bhriain who successfully applied for research funding in response to the first call issued by the Teaching Council under its Research Support Framework. The project, developed in partnership with Dr Padraig Ó’Duibhir (Deputy Dean, Institute of Education, DCU), Dr Francis Ward (Assistant Professor in Music Education, DCU), Dr Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain (Lecturer in Music and Dance, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, UL) and Ms Maeve Moynihan (Gaelscoil an Raithín, Limerick), focuses on the use of music in Action-Orientated language learning. At least two primary schools, one in Dublin and one in Limerick, will take part in the experimentation of that innovative language learning method. Having completed the evaluation process, the Teaching Council Review Panel decided to allocate €2,400 to Mairéad and her research partners in support of the initial stages of their project. Research funding will be presented at an awards ceremony that is to take place on Wednesday 10 January in Dublin. More details will be published after the awards ceremony.
