Unfortunately no Pots coming back to GRC this year but we had some very promising performances from all our crews especially our Inter, Junior and Novice girls squads who performed to their best through out the day, and gave some massive efforts in their races. We had some success in our Masters scullers with Sean Heaney and 'Mike' Walkowiak winning their respective Finals. Well done lads. To all our rowers, coaches, supporters, parents, family & friends, thanks for the ongoing help, and GRC will be soon back on the top of the podium where it belongs.
WIN....Men's Masters 8+ (c-d) final. Congrats to our Veteran men's crew who turned over an 8 second deficit at the start to win their Non-Championship event ahead of St Michaels in 2nd and 3rd place mixed composite crew. Well done lads. Enjoy a quiet night tonight.
"I took a stroll on the Old Long Walk...." all our Galway Girls relaxing today on their day off at National Champs 2017. Refuelling for their attack at Day 3 tomorrow. Thanks to parents for keeping them fed n happy.
Update from Friday: Friday: * Women's Club 4+ : Disappointment for the girls just missed out on qualification from their semi final, coming 4th. * Women's Junior 4- : Their race was turned into straight final at Heat time. The girls had a good row but came up against very strong crews and eventually came in 5th. There was little between the 2nd-5th placed crews, with the form crew leading from start to finish almost. * Women's Inter 8+ : This event was also turned into final. The crew had a very good performance, being in 2nd place up to the 1300m, behind a very strong Cork crew. The girls were overtaken by NUIG, Trinity and UCD in the run in, with little between them, eventually coming in 5th. But, given the new rules, brought in for various grades, this crew were relatively inexperienced against other clubs and certainly gave a very strong effort and acquitted themselves very well.
Nice article about Champs - AND great plug for former club oarsman and coach Paul Thornton, now coaching in UCC, who's coaching the Irish U23 4X- :) Super job Paul.
