This male choir LesVoix de L’Est was founded in 2014 and consists of a number of singers from different musical backgrounds. The musical director is André Kogovsek. The present choir has evolved from one which dates back to the time of the first world war and which was founded by migrant workers and refugees. These people came mostly from the south east of Europe to work in the mines of Lorraine, in the east of France. Many of the songs and the tradition of choral music which they brought with them have been a great source of comfort and solidarity to them in their new homeland. The present choir, which is now mainly composed of their descendants continues this inherited tradition. The small town of Aumetz is home to this choir and is an example of the importance and role of the mining industry for the survival of these immigrants. The choir sings acapella and they endeavour to interpret songs from different parts of the world, mostly traditional but also popular. Their repertoire includes music from Slovenia Croatia, Russia France and Italy

In fair Verona the Montagues and Capulets exist in perpetual violent opposition. Brawls abound and blood spills in a macho urban world defined by conflict. But as gang feuds rage, love blossoms: at first glimpse Romeo and Juliet fall desperately and wholly for each other, with tragic consequences… Thursday 30th November at 8pm | Tickets €15/12 www.antain.ie Stylised, expressionistic, and bursting with an energy that embodies the youthful frenzied passion that made this text so iconic, An Táin Arts Centre's Company-in-Residence Quintessence Theatre use their slick, innovative physical ensemble story-telling techniques to tackle the greatest love story ever told. Relocating the world’s most famous lovers to late 90’s Louth and lives defined by opposition, plagued by historical conflict, and intertwined with toxic masculinity, Quintessence lift the Bard’s poetry from page to stage in gritty, moving and vivid detail. Performed by a talented multi-roling company and directed by Anna Simpson, a Creative Associate of the Pleasance Theatre, and Practitioner with Shakespeare’s Globe, London. #antainartists
