Dunlaoghaire Presbyterian Church
Description
Church service at 11.15 every Sunday morning. All welcome. DPC is a church in the Presbyterian Church In Ireland. It was originally founded by Scottish people who came over to work in the building of the Dunlaoghaire harbour pier in the 1820's. Originally called Scots church it changed its name to Kingstown Presbyterian Church before the turn of the 1900's and changed it again to its present name in 1972.
The current church building is our second official one. It was built in 1863. Before that the church met in the building across the road which is now a fas training centre.
Our current minister is the Rev Chris Kennedy. He is our ninth minister. Chris is married to Sally and they have 3 boys.
Presbyterians are known both for their strain of doctrine and their particular way of running the church. We believe that both are the best understanding of the faith handed to the apostles. Events in the Swiss reformation particularly those surrounding a Frenchman called John Calvin is where most Presbyterian doctrine comes from whilst the Presbyterian form of church government was developed during the Scottish reformation by a man called John Knox- himself greatly influenced by Mr Calvin.
