#Jesuit Seán Coghlan SJ has lived in Hong Kong for 52 years. Born in #Limerick, Ireland, Seán has been struck by the many differences in culture. But he concludes: “deep down, there’s a similarity in all of us and it’s consoling and encouraging to find it. "It's an opportunity for people around the world, and particularly #Africans, to celebrate the Continent’s irreplaceable cultural and natural heritage", says UNESCO.Frank Wafer SJ in #Zambia explains why the #Jesuit Cultural Centre was founded there. Fr Wafer compiled the only English/Chitonga dictionary to preserve the language of the Tonga people there.

On the shores of Lake Tana in Ethiopia is a block of land undergoing a transformation. Families living in the area of Abay Mado there had been waiting for their local schools to be built for 20 years! The #Jesuits were invited to take over the project in 2007 because of their expertise in the building and management of educational institutions.Its story is here http://bit.ly/EthiopiaSch The school grew at a rapid pace.The kindergarten and primary schools are up and running. Plans are underway to start the building of the secondary school. In Ethiopia #education4all is national priority #SDG4

'From Access to Integration' Jesuit education seminar

"Only the educated are free" wrote the philosopher Epictetus. At the seminar 'From Access to Integration', held at Emmaus Centre in #Dublin, the doors were opened to lively discussion on the challenges and achievements of young asylum seekers, #refugees and migrants in Irish classrooms. Presenters and participants travelled from Europe and the west of Ireland, sharing stories and experiences, from the #Jesuit Social and #Education Apostolates.The seminar was organised by the Programme for #Reconciliation and #Justice in Jesuit schools in Ireland. #SDG4 #Education4All Irish Jesuits

‘Water is life’ so goes the Swahili saying ‘Maji ni uhai’! St Peter Claver #Jesuit School is in a Tanzanian region with poor rainfall. Read it here: http://bit.ly/PClaversWATER .The vegetable garden is the main self-reliance activity in #sustainable farming but there's a problem - not enough falls during the dry season from April to October to water it. Now with help from #Irish Jesuit #Missions, fresh rainwater will be harvested from four large roofs and stored in tanks. It'll train the students in the efficient use of rainwater harvesting and become a model for the area! #SDG4 #SDG6

Two years after the #NepalEarthquake on 25th April 2015, the #Nepal Jesuits are still hard at work and share their updates on rehabilitation efforts.
