The news we have all been waiting for... The Short List for The 2017 CAP Awards! The second Carousel Aware Prize for Independent Authors (The CAP Awards) was launched in March 2017, and we would like to congratulate every one of this year’s entrants. The standard has, as we expected, been very high, but we have managed to compile a short list for each category. When Carousel and Aware first decided to launch these awards in the autumn of 2015, we had no idea what was around the corner. Our founder, Carolann Copland, continues to face operations on her spine. But as these complications in life were the flame that lit the idea for CAP, we are delighted that despite these problems, the plunging of The CAP Awards into Irish Literary Society has been very successful once again. This is thanks to the wonderful committee and judges who have given up their time for the benefit of Independent Authors and the charity Aware. We are much appreciative of their dedication and commitment. In March 2017, Carousel launched this year’s awards at an event in The Teacher’s Club. We were introduced to last year’s winners and short listed authors and we looked at how some of this year’s wonderfully written books could bring themselves to award winning standard by concentrating on structural and copy editing, proof reading, formatting, presentation, book covers and titles. We also looked at the future of The Poetry and Short Story Category. There were not enough entries into this category last year and this year’s change to a category of Short Stories and Poetry combined has been very successful. We have also had great support once again this year from our sponsors. The winners of The CAP Awards will be announced on the evening of Wednesday the 25th of October in The Teacher’s Club in Parnell Square at 7pm, and it would be wonderful to see as many of you as possible, both short listed authors and supporters. So mark the date. Some of the judges and others connected with Independent Publishing will be there to talk to you on the night and it will be a wonderful opportunity to meet others who are heading down the same publishing route as yourselves. So let the excitement build now as we come towards the end of another CAP year and the beginning of an amazing year for our winning authors. Here it is, in what is becoming one of the most prestigious yearly awards in Irish publishing, I give you this year’s CAP Awards’ SHORT LIST… Short lists for The Carousel Aware Prize for Independent Authors Best Junior Book Judge: Benji Bennett Alma Jordan & Tales from Riverside Farm Martin Beckett Emma-Jane Leeson & The Adventures of Johnny Magory Kim Shaw Kevin Doyle & Spark Deeley The Worms That Saved The World Helen C Burke Billy’s Search for the Healing Well Alan Murphy Psychosilly Dolores Keaveney & Dilly the Camper & The Magic Fairy Garden The Keaveney & Lennon Children Best Young Adult Book Judge: Claire Hennessy Jaq Hazell My Life As A Bench J.S.
