31 Grace Park Road, Drumcondra, Ireland
Organization

Description

ad

AMSI is the National Member Organisation which represents all Medical students studying in the seven Irish Medical Schools in IFMSA. On the 9th of November 2013, medical students from across the country came together for an inaugural National Medical Student Summit. The summit led to the launch and establishment of the Association of Medical Students in Ireland (AMSI). For the first time since the late 19th century, Irish medical students have an organization that can facilitate dialogue at a national and international level.

The national organization will aim to:

* Increase collaboration between the medical schools

* Represent the views of medical student on a national scale

* Promote medical student wellness

* Create a forum where students can discuss a range of scientific and social topics

We would like to bring to your attention the existence of this organisation and the individual school representatives. This organisation will provide an alternative method for individual medical schools to communicate with all Irish medical students.

Wondering what AMSI is a part of when we head away twice a year to IFMSA's General Assemblies? Here's a lovely recap of what was achieved in Tanzania earlier this month :D We played a role in co-creating the Policy of IFMSA on Active Lifecourse and Ageing as part of our Déan Athrú project and the AMR policy as per our continued work on the subject of anti-microbial resistance. We also drafted bylaw changes, presented as part of taskforces and of course, we became FULL Members of IFMSA!!! <3 :D #IFMSA #AMSI #FullMembership #Tanzania

We were delighted to play an important role along with our colleagues from IFMSA Pakistan in producing the now official IFMSA policy on "Active Ageing and Lifecourse" that was adopted last week in Tanzania by the IFMSA General Assembly. We believe that this policy statement will provide an important stepping stone to enabling our project Déan Athrú in achieving its goals in 2017-18 :) #makeachange #ageing #advocacy

A very important message from AMSI's Public Health Committee this afternoon. AMSI will be joining other organisations over the coming weeks as part of a HPV Vaccination Alliance. As part of this, we are looking for girls who have had the HPV vaccination to get in touch with Muiriosa Ryan from the HSE to take part in short interviews on the topic on August 2nd. Vaccines work. There is an onus on us as the healthcare professionals of tomorrow to ensure that the misinformation that exists in the public domain is dispelled by scientific fact. Should you be available, please contact Muiriosa at - muiriosa.ryan@hse.ie #VaccinesWork #PublicHealth

AMSI's #SCOPE Exchange Program went West at the weekend with Joan and Königin who are finishing their electives at School of Medicine Trinity joining Anna in Galway who is being hosted by the School of Medicine NUIG. Very friendly people in An Cheathrú Rua in Connemara, and even friendlier hoofed friends! We hope to keep growing our program in the near future with our colleagues at AMSI UCD working hard to be able to have UCD School of Medicine involved next year :D #Exchangetheworld #mindyourfingers #sunnysalthill #IFMSA

Ethics, medicine and research all at play. "Prof Hirano says the therapy he is developing could improve the condition of Charlie who suffers from a form of mitochondrial disease. He believes there is an 11-56% chance the nucleoside therapy would improve the baby's muscular strength and that there is a "small but significant" chance it would also help brain functions."
