Cotter Bros Firewood is Ireland's first WFQA Certified 'Firewood & Log Trade Center'. We sell a wide range of ready to burn firewood in various pack sizes. Cotter Bros Firewood is Ireland's first WFQA Certified 'Firewood & Log Trade Center'. It is operated by the two Cotter brothers, Jack and Nick, with a little help from their father who co-owns Mid Western Forestry.
In recognition of the quality of their firewood and the quality assurance process they operate, Jack and Nick Cotter received WFQA Certification on behalf of Cotter Bros Firewood from Minister Tom Hayes TD at the 2013 Ploughing Championships where they were exhibiting for the three days of the show.
Cotter Bros Firewood is a local home-grown business, based on producing and selling, high quality ready to burn WFQA Certified Firewood, at very competitive prices, down to 4.75cent per kW/hr which is less than half the price of oil and less expensive than coal.
Cotter Bros Firewood is ideally located on a 100ac farm in Dromtrasna North, Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick, where we have over 10,000sq feet of indoor drying, processing and storage space in 6 sheds devoted to our firewood operation. In addition we have over 5 acres of outdoor storage area where we air-dry the round logs down to between 25 and 30% moisture content before we process them into firewood.
After processing the logs into firewood, we then allow the firewood to dry naturally indoors until it is under 25% MC at which point we put it through our cleaner to remove any loose bark, small fractions and dust. We then package the clean, WFQA certified, ready to burn firewood for storage or delivery to our customers.
We produce 20cm long ready to burn firewood which is sold in a wide range of branded packaging from 45x65cm small net bags, 53x84cm large net bags, 90x90x90cm builder bags and in 10m3 and 20m3 truck loads.
We also produce 40cm long ready to burn firewood which is sold in 10m3 and 20m3 truck loads.
To provide confidence and transparency to our customers we publish a Public Price List which not only guarantees all our firewood is under 25% moisture content, but also guarantees minimum volumes and weights for all our products.
We state the cost of our firewood products in 'cent per kWh' so customers and prospective customers can compare the cost of heating with Cotter Bros Firewood against the cost of heating with oil, coal, gas and electricity.
We believe this will give home-owners the information and confidence they need to make the change from heating with imported fossil fuels to locally produced firewood, a move which is good for the environment, will create local jobs and which will save them money.
We also sell both truck/artic loads of freshly cut forestry logs (3m lengths, 7-20cm diameter, 13.5-26T) which are suitable for processing into firewood.

Dear Customers, today we publish our 2017/2018 pricelist. There are a number of changes which we highlight below. New Products and Existing Products: • We have introduced a new product called ‘Chunky Logs’ which as the name suggests, are larger logs designed for bigger stoves to give longer burn times. This firewood is the same dryness and length as our regular firewood but is cut to a larger diameter to last longer. • We have expanded the availability of our Kiln Dried Standard firewood which is now available both locally and nationally. Kiln Dried Standard firewood is designed for use in small to medium sized, high performance, clean burn stoves requiring kiln dried / under 20% firewood. Ideal for stoves where a clean door glass is desired for a clear view of the flames. • We have ‘named’ the firewood we have been selling for the past number of years as ‘Classic Firewood’ so it can be distinguished from the other firewood products described above. Colour-coded and Numbered Pricelist: • Because of our expanding range of products we have decided to colour-code and number this year’s Public Price List. • Our regular firewood which we have named Classic Firewood is shown highlighted in blue and is numbered 1 to 11 on the left hand side of the pricelist. • Kiln Dried Standard firewood is highlighted in brown and is numbered 12 to 21. • Chunky Logs firewood is highlighted in purple and is numbered 22 to 24. Prices • We have reduced the price of our net bags of Classic Firewood collected from the yard, from €2.99 to €2.85 each. • We have increased the price of our Double Bulk Bag of Kiln Dried Standard Firewood delivered nationwide from €180 to €190. • We have maintained the prices of all the rest of our Classic Firewood range at last year’s prices. • We have introduced our new Kiln Dried Standard and Chunky Logs products at between €7 and €10 per cubic meter more than our Classic Firewood. This reflects the additional time (an extra year) and costs it takes to produce these premium products. Delivery: • Despite the rising costs of fuel, labour and motoring, we have maintained our delivery charges the same as last year. To facilitate this we have had to make a couple of important changes, some voluntary and some forced upon us. • Bulk Bag deliveries are ‘Kerbside’. This means that the driver will drop the bulk bag as close as possible to where you want it as long as it is (a) safe, (b) possible and (c) within the reach of the crane. The driver will decide what is safe and possible and his decision will be final. • Due to Health & Safety rules we are not allowed to drag bulk bags on the ground anymore. • Bags may be moved by trolley, closer to or into your shed if requested and conditions allow, at a cost of €5 per bag. HOW DO WE EXPLAIN THE VALUE Some people may think that €60, €70 or even €80 for a Bulk Bag of Cotter Bros Firewood its expensive, but it’s not. In fact it’s incredibly inexpensive. Here is a simple comparison. 1 Bulk Bag of Cotter Bros Firewood contains the same amount of firewood as 32 net bags that you see for sale in Tesco/Aldi/Lid for anything from €3.99 to €4.99. You are getting Cotter Bros Firewood for between €2.20 and €2.50, delivered… that’s inexpensive, that’s value. Customer Update 13th January 2017 - OUT OF STOCK In our last customer update on the 3rd Jan we noted that we would run out of timber in the coming weeks, today we would like to update you again. Current Stock Remaining. We have filled all orders for our remaining firewood and we are officially out of stock. The Plan. As previously advised our next delivery day will be the 21/22. We will review the situation again in Feb based on drying rates etc and update you again then. Finally, we would like to both thank you for your support in 2016, apologise for running out of firewood before the end of the heating season and to let you know we have a number of plans that will hopefully mean we won't run out early next season... and we look forward to sharing those plans with you soon! Customer Update 3rd January 2017 In our last customer update on the 4th Dec we noted that we would run out of firewood in the following 3-4 weeks, today we would like to update you again. Current Stock Remaining. We have approximately 50 bulk bags and 25 double bulk bag pallets of firewood at 20% moisture (M20). We also have a small amount of firewood (25/30 bulk bags) that has tested at 25% moisture content (M25) and this is also available. The Plan. Because of our limited supply, our next delivery day will be the 21/22 Jan. Also, with the exception of the double bulk bag pallets, all the firewood will be reserved for our EXISTING customers. Orders will be fulfilled on a first come first served basis Please order now to reserve your firewood. We will review the situation again in Feb based on drying rates etc and update you again then. Finally, we would like to both thank you for your support in 2016 and apologise for once again running out of firewood before the heating season has ended. We have, however, embarked on a number of plans that hopefully will mean that we will not run out next year, and we look forward to sharing those plans with you soon!
