Three Castle Head and Barleycove. Fantastic trip as always with these two lovelies 😊.
The southernmost tip of Ireland is a firm favourite with this meetup and is burgeoning with castles and coastline a plenty. Close to Mizen Head is the stunning stronghold of the O' Mahony clan, Three Castles Head. This fortification overlooks the ocean and lake from its lofty perch and makes for one of the more spectacular picnic spots. The walk will be on rough ground at times so hiking boots will be recommended as well as a change of shoes and socks in case it is boggy underfoot. Walk will take 2-3 hours. We will also have a wee stop at the gorgeous Barleycove beach before winding our day down at one of the local establishments. Please note distance is 124km and takes approx 2 hours so car pooling definitely recommended for this one! :) Cost for trip is 15 euros: I am a professional guide and run these as proper tours including detailed info on local history and stories. I'm a qualified zoologist so part of the day is showcasing local wildlife and nature. What to bring: Raingear, warm clothes, hiking boots, food and drinks for picnic lunch, money for snacks at cafe/bar. If you have a car or need a lift, please RSVP and post to the event. Fantastic time last night kayaking with Atlantic Offshore Adventures. Incredible bioluminesence. Thanks to Jack and Aileen for a great night! :)
Dunworley is part of the Seven Heads Peninsula and a stunning spot for walking. Absolutely class day with this great gang 😊.
The Sheeps Head in West Cork is one of only a few locations in Ireland which has been designated the European Destination of Excellence. The lighthouse here is on the the tip of the peninsula and this gorgeous loop walk brings us past Lough, farmland and bog, to see stunning views from the lighthouse out onto the Atlantic ocean. This location is drenched in history and we will be discovering some of this as we wend our way along. The walk will take 2-2.5 hours and terrain will be uneven and maybe a wee bit boggy in parts. Sfter we will go to a local pub in Ahakista for refreshments/snacks. What to bring: ring rain gear, suncream, extra socks!, picnic food and water. Cost for trip is 15 euros: I am a professional guide and run these as proper tours including detailed info on local history and stories. I'm a qualified zoologist so part of the day is showcasing local wildlife and nature. We will stop at a cafe/bar for refreshments/food at end of trip. Car pooling: Meet across road from Fire station on Anglesea Street at 10.30 am. Otherwise meet At the Cupan Tae/Sheeps head Cafe in Tooreen at 12pm sharp. Please note that mobile reception is non existent after Durrus!
My other company, Kinsale Food Tours has been nominated to represent Kinsale in 'Foodie Destination of Ireland' competition and we are ecstatic! :) Please vote for us here before the 10th Aug: http://www.foodiedestinations.ie/
Dunworley is gem of a place and usually better known by locals than by tourists as it's off the beaten track. It encompasses part of the magnificent Seven Heads Coastal Route. We will walk a section of this from Dunworley along the coast to Barry's Cove. The area is rich in history and beautiful coastal scenery. The walk will take 2.5 to 3 hours at a relaxed pace. We will stop for a picnic at Barry's Cove. Cost for trip is 15 euros: I am a professional guide and run these as proper tours including detailed info on local history and stories. I'm a qualified zoologist so part of the day is showcasing local wildlife and nature. What to bring: Rain gear, walking shoes/boots, comfortable clothes, packed lunch for picnic. We will cross a shallow section of water on the trip so bring a little towel to dry your feet. We will stop at a cafe/bar for refreshments/food at end of trip. Car pooling: Meet across road from Fire station on Anglesea Street at 10.30 am. Otherwise meet by waterfront of Dunworley Bay at 11.30 am. Contact: Suzanne 085-107 6113
