Well done to our debating team last night who narrowly lost their debating semi final to an excellent Ardfield team. Tadgh O'Neill , Peter Symington and Eva Buttimer did the school proud! Well done guys ! Well done also to Kate Ryan, Tyler Turner, Lynn McCarthy , Patrick Ryan, Charlotte Good, Teresa Scully, Erin Laughton and Eimear Barrett for their invaluable contribution. Again thanks to Mrs. Beechinor for her great work with the team! Finally, we wish Ardfield all the best in their final.

Daffodil Day Our Daffodil Day fund raiser was, once again, a huge success. Many thanks to everyone who contributed by supplying/buying cakes, buying raffle tickets and donating prizes. A total of €1,685.20 was raised. Easter Holidays The school will close this Friday for the Easter Holidays. Junior & Senior Infants finish at 12 and the remaining classes at 12.30 p.m. School will re-open on Monday, April 24th. Inter-School Rugby Blitz Children from 5th & 6th classes will travel to Clonakilty Rugby Pitch tomorrow Thursday April 6th, to take part in an inter-school ruby blitz. The children will travel by bus, leaving the school at 10.00 a.m. and returning at 1.15 p.m. approximately. Primary School Debating – West Cork Semi Final Best of luck to our inter-school debating team who will represent the school against Ardfield National School on Thursday night next in West Cork Education Centre, Dunmanway. School Tours 2017 This year’s school tours have been organised as follows: · Junior Infants (Friday, June 2nd) – Glenview Gardens, Enniskeane · Senior Infants (Thursday, June 8th) – Supernova, Ballincollig · 1st (Wednesday, May 31st) – Bounce Zone, Cork · 2nd (Tuesday, May 16th) - Mardyke Arena Activity Centre, Cork · 3rd & 4th (Monday, May 9th) – Cork City (Shandon, English Market & Crawford Gallery) · 5th & 6th (Tuesday, May 23rd) – Oysterhaven Centre, Kinsale Further details including times and cost of each trip will be finalised shortly. Confirmation 2017 Confirmation will take place in Clonakilty Parish Church on Tuesday, April 25th at 10.30 a.m. Following the ceremony, the children and their families are invited to the Parish Centre for some light refreshments.

NEWSLETTER WEEK 28 (29.3.17) School Musical – ‘Aladdin’ Many thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make last week’s show such a success. Your co-operation in the weeks leading up to the show and on the night itself was very much appreciated. We would like to think that the children had a night that they will never forget. The DVD of the will be available to buy shortly. Details to follow. Daffodil Day Fundraiser Tickets are on sale every morning this week. Tickets sold will be entered into a mini draw on the day. All tickets sold during this week will be entered into the monster draw on Friday. Prizes for the Monster draw include: Lenova Tablet; GAA Summer Camp Voucher; Aunty Nellie’s Sweet Assortment; ‘Quicksilver’ & ‘Roxy’ Backpacks and a selection of Easter Eggs. Tickets will cost 50 cent per strip or three strips for €1. To raise further much needed funds for Daffodil Day we will once again hold a cake sale in school on this Friday, March 31st. We hope that this years’ event will be as hugely successful as it has been in the past. This will of course only be possible with your help. The school will be open to receive cakes from 9.00 a.m. Parents and members of the public are invited to buy cakes from 10.30 a.m. All the children will be given an opportunity to purchase throughout the morning. Active Flag Week Next week (April 3rd – 7th) we plan to have our Active Flag Week. It will be a week jam-packed with sporting activities. Each day focusing on different disciplines including gymnastics, athletics, dodgeball, table-tennis, rugby, soccer, and G.A.A. While a lot of our schedule is weather dependant, our timetable is flexible and we plan on having a fun-filled week – whatever the weather. Sciath na Scoil Our Sciath na Scoil football season gets under way shortly: · Friday, May 5th - V’s Rath & Rosscarbery Girls · To be confirmed - V’s Kilmeen Easter Holidays The school closes for the Easter Holidays on Friday April 7th and will re-open on Monday, April 24th.
