Rebecca Bradley | The More You See, The Less You Hold With opening speaker and collaborator Sarah Hayden Opening Thurs Sept 14, 6pm - 7:30pm Entry via Gallery Entrance on 26 Marlboro Street Exhibition run until November 4. Rebecca Bradley’s exhibition of new paintings - The More You See the Less You Hold - work thin veils of oil paint on birch ply panels. The scenes generated are idealised landscapes recollected from moments gazing through train carriage windows, at the passing slideshow of strange and familiar terrains. The contradiction between the movement of the train passing by still and silent views allows for observation and speculation. The passenger’s spatial and psychological separation from these views, as they slip by, unleashes a sense of introspection, a state of looking and being that Bradley expresses in pared down washes of glossy paint with shifting horizontals. “Postcard-like in format, Bradley’s paintings are miniaturized epics. Vastnesses pulled down to tiny formats, they give us expanses condensed. Hanging like ultra-high-res thumbnails, these Lilliputian landscapes are dense with sensual data, and littler than seems possible.” (Sarah Hayden, 2017) Sarah Hayden will be reading her text on these new works and her accompanying poems from this collaboration with Rebecca Bradley. These feature in new publication - Still There and Ready - which will be released at the opening. Solo exhibitions include: Vestiges of Place, Seamus Ennis Arts Centre, Naul, (2016); Provisional View, Sternview Gallery, Cork, (2015); Situate, Parade, Margate, UK, (2013); Postcards, Enniskillen Visual Arts Festival, Co. Fermanagh, (2010); Soft Days, Doswell Gallery, Rosscarberry, Co. Cork, (2009). Group exhibitions include: Art Works, Visual, Carlow Arts Festival, (2016); Utopia Dystopia, Fringe Arts Festival, Bath, UK, (2016); There’s a Ghost in My House 2, Symposium and Exhibition, CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork, (2015); Sulumuc, Tactic Gallery, Sample-Studios, Cork, (2014); Land and Sea, Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, (2011); Miami SCOPE Art Fair, (2010).
