Without the rest of our county, we'd just be sitting in the field like any other weekend. Therefore, a huge special mention is due to Ballincollig Scout Group, 37th Togher Scouts, and Macroom Scout Group. Lads and ladies - it was great to have ye, you are fantastic and a credit to your groups. And the leaders - from cooking and cleaning to marking and hauling and driving and helping and getting the groups out there and doing the shopping and absolutely everything, the event wouldn't have run have as smoothly without your help! Thanks so much for coming, and we can't wait to have ye back.

Our County campfire, led by Kevin. We also had a sketch challenge, with some great entries that kept us entertained.
Lee Valley Shield 2017
Another amazing Shield! One of the best, we all agree. Amazing weather, an amazing site, and of course some amazing effort put in by talented and enthusiastic scouts. This year we had a separate Backwoods subcamp, cooking and sleeping separately. This was a great success, and the scouts from the whole county really showcased the skills they have learned through scouting. Meanwhile, the Campcraft subcamp were challenged with a series of bases in the field. Not everything went to plan, but we had a huge amount of fun. We all got together for a campfire and sketch competition, and sang some classics. It was Burncourt Scout Campsite's first large capacity event, and it has proved more than adequate, even without the use of the soon to be completed HQ. Of course, this wouldn't have been possible without tireless toil from our leaders. Huge thanks are due to CPC Kris, CC Eoin, Subcamp Chief Kevin, the 4th Cork Ventures, and the rest of the team who spent last Friday cutting and strimming and tidying so the site was perfect this weekend, and running bases and logistics. And let's not forget the 20 scouts who put their all into this weekend - Bravo to all of you!

First day of the Shield! All is going very well so far. Our two patrols are working away, and the backwoods divisions have started building firepits for cooking and a shelter for sleeping in tonight. Some of our leaders will be hammocking out in the forest too! There's more bases this afternoon, and a test meal tonight.
Save Cork City
Sure wasn't Calszer only too happy! #savecorkcity

Today Scouts and Leaders were up in Burncourt; the scouts put together their equipment for next week's County Shield, and the Leaders got on with the business of strimming, mowing, chainsaw-ing, painting, general-odd-job-ing, and even dancing.. The place is looking ship shape now! Don't fear, the field has been cut to Phoenix regulation grass length, the life buoy is in place, and all the Burcos have been tested, so a mug of tea is the least of your worries! It was a tough day, but also a good opportunity for a re-appearance of one of the group's earliest scouts, who celebrated his return by eating a tin of sardines on the bus..... to the dismay of all sane people everywhere.
