Would you love to work in Retail? Get a great career in a shop, supermarket, or High Street business? The Retail Skills course at #NLN #Hollyhill is free, open to new Learners at any time, and is a supportive programme where you do a mix of study and work experience placements in retail businesses around #Cork. We work with companies like #Supervalu, Marks & Spencers, #Debenhams and many more. On the course, you learn all about the #retail environment, how it works and how to get a good job. You also find out how tills work (why they're not scary!) and how to relax and be great at customer service. If you'd like to know more, and have a no-obligation chat, call Veronica Fitzgibbon, Instructor, on 0214300144. By the way, here's Catherine and Tony at NLN Hollyhill running the Centre shop, using the new electronic till.

Summertime and the eating is easy! At NLN Hollyhill, our Catering Programme (QQI Level 4) is enjoying learning all about the world's cuisines. And making great dishes to satisfy everyone's appetite. This week it was Spanish food (Hola Paella!), and next week it will be Italian. The staff and Learners are REALLY appreciating their hard work, lol. If you'd like to take part, call Instructors Virginia or Mairead on 0214300144 for a friendly chat.

An excellent day today for NLN Hollyhill Learners, who took part in the HSE's Health Action Zone, Men's Mental Health Day, at the Parochial Hall in Gurranabraher. Lawn bowls, a concert with Eason's Hill Men's Shed (which included Learners), chat and making new friends helped everyone improve their community participation and social skills. Many thanks to HSE Community Development Workers Martin Aherne and Stephen Murphy, as well - especially when they told 5 learners they had won spending vouchers from Singleton's Supervalu, Knocknaheeny. If you'd like to know more about - or join - our free personal development and mental health programmes, call us on 0214300144.

Fantastic work by the Directions Programme at NLN Hollyhill, with their great new anti-tobacco short film - Butt Wars ! - for the Irish Cancer Society. Led by Instructor Adrian Brady (who won funding from the Irish Cancer Society to make the film), the short was created by a very active group of Learners who planned, wrote, filmed, costumed, soundscaped and produced the film over a period of three weeks (with editing by Learners on the IT Systems programme). A lovely 2.30 minutes long (and filmed at St Peter's Exhibition venue, North Main St, Cork), Butt Wars is a fun StarWars take on not getting yourself involved with tobacco and its evils. Click below to see the film on Youtube - to help the Learners get votes for the film, please watch it for at least 15 seconds, and like and share this message so everyone sees the message and the Learners' hard work. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=xhale+buttwars
