Early Years Music Cork
Description
Early Years Music Cork is dedicated to promoting, teaching, nurturing, researching, developing and supporting early childhood music education. Early Years Music (for under 4’s accompanied by parent/caregiver)
These classes invite infants (3 months to 1.5 years), toddlers (1.5 to 2.5 years) and pre-school children (2.5 to 4 years) to develop a love of music-making together. Classes offer developmentally appropriate activities that nurture a child's innate joy and musical ability.
Activities in these classes will lay a solid foundation for future musical experiences. Based on Dr. John M. Feierabend's early childhood research on music and movement development, these classes will prepare your child for the later development of:
• Accurate singing skills
• Accurate rhythmic skills
• Sensitivity to the expressive qualities in music
Classes are built upon the principles advocated by Hungarian composer and music educator Zoltán Kodály (1882-1967) whose desire was to see music education built on a philosophy that music is for everyone. He believed that singing should be the foundation of all music education.
Early Years Music Cork classes are taught by
Edel McDonnell (MA, BA (Hons), LRSM, DipMus RIAM) who is an internationally certified early childhood music specialist. Edel received a Certificate in Kodály Music Education Concept (Silver Lake College, Wisconsin, USA) and a Professional Development Certificate in Early Childhood Music Education –Kodály (British Kodály Academy/University of Roehampton, UK). Edel is a Kindermusic and Musicianship Lecturer at the CIT Cork School of Music.

Stop obsessing over talent—everyone can sing
"Research shows that many adults who think of themselves as “unmusical” were told as children that they couldn’t or shouldn’t sing by teachers and family members" https://theconversation.com/stop-obsessing-over-talent-everyone-can-sing-74047
