Another happy family - this is one of my most humorous reviews :-) I'm quite relieved that I'm not seen as a voodoo quack !!!!! ******************************** Rachel came to our house and met with my wife and I. When I was told that she was coming, I just gave a nod and asked myself what sort of Voodoo quackery was coming to greet us now. Our son Ódhran was not sleeping. If you’re reading this, our child was just as bad as yours. He’d sleep maybe 40 minutes, with the help of white noise. As soon as the white noise would stop, he’d wake roaring. The simplest of noises would wake him - footsteps, doors closing, doors opening, dog barking outside, car pulling up, creaking chair, or just the dummy falling out and then the cycle would start up again. One of us would spend the next hour and a half trying to get him back to sleep. No matter how hard we tried, or which old wives tale we implemented, nothing would work. Everyone was coming to us with jars of this, herbal remedies that, incense, scented candles… you name it - we tried it. Sleep deprivation does that to you. It did it to us. It was a form of mental torture. I thought that Rachel was just going to be another in a long line of unproven science, but was just going to give us hope for another little bit of the journey until Ódhran grew up and out of it. When Rachel arrived, she wasn’t dressed as a squaw or anything and appeared normal. This was already a positive from some of the other batshit crazy people that we tried. If I will give you any advice (of which there are loads of it from all sorts!) it is this: Do as Rachel says and commit to the program. Within a few days of starting we were already experiencing results. Our son was sleeping. You have no idea (yet) how amazing this feels. The late night bottle and middle of the night bottle were stopped. The dummy was gone (and the sticky stuff that we dipped it in!) We are six weeks in and he sleeps through the night for about 10hours on average. The morning and afternoon naps are up and down – but this is to be expected. As new parents, we found it frustrating that depending on the doctor/ nurse/ mother/ parent/ midwife/or even quack you met, everyone had a different opinion. What compounded this problem was when someone in the same profession had a conflicting opinion. This above all made everything frustrating as we tried to give the best possible care to our son. One minute you think you’re doing the right thing, and then someone tells you that they do it a different way. This I suppose separates Rachel from all the other things available out there. She explained it. It was straight-forward, understandable and had a method to it. All through the process, Rachel was on hand and guided us every step. The level of support she offered was far beyond the call of duty. We had some very tough days along the way. Be strong. You’ll get there, especially with having Rachel on your side. Without a doubt, this has been the best move that we have made for our family and we are now able to enjoy our little man.

Sleep problems mounting in children - BBC News
Most (92%) of the sleep issues children experience are behavioural - not medical . Where sleep issues are behavioural we should not medicate our children to get them to sleep. http://www.bbc.com/news/health-39140836?utm_content=bufferd10de&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
