8 Simple Ways to Avoid New Year's Resolution-Induced Injury

New Year New You??? People taking up exercise in the new year is fantastic, we all need to move more and stay healthy! However some pitfalls to watch out for so you don't need to see us (full article from Mick Hughes in Oz below) 1. Don't go at it 100mph!! Going from no exercise for months to "boot camps", "body blasts", "ab attacks" etc can be risky. Get out and move each day, target purposeful walking for 30-40mins - before the burpees, mountain climbers and box jumps begin (if that's the plan!) 2. Compliment this with simple body weight exercises for 2-3 weeks initially to prepare the body for those exercises above (also when in the class, have confidence to say NO to the heavier weight if not comfortable yet - you'll get there eventually!) 3. When in the gym/classes - Sleep and REST days are crucial!! Muscles and tendons new to exercise take 2-3 days to recover (sometimes more!) So 2 classes a week (non consecutive days) for 2-3 weeks to begin and increase thereafter Lastly, be sure the exercise you choose is enjoyable - experiment with lots of activities to find the one that suits you! http://trustmephysiotherapy.com/8-ways-for-injury-prevention/
