Clonakilty Bass Angling Guide
Description
Situated in Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland. Targeting Bass and salmon. Preference to fly fishing and lure. Peter has been based in the West Cork town of Clonakilty since 1996 and is a marine and countryside tour guide specializing in angling.
Fishing is done amidst the prolific and scenic backdrop of Clonakilty bay from a boat that is suitable for either one or two anglers. The boat is ideal for the lure angler and fly rodder alike where long drifts can be achieved and be fished using “loch style” methods. It is also equipped with a trolling motor to search the shoreline and reefs for resident bass.
He is also a keen salmon angler (fly) and is the guide on the Kilcoleman stretch of the River Bandon owned by the Lamb family.

facebook.comA few people have asked me recently how they can access my fifteen minutes of fame with the lovely Christine Bleakley! Thanks to my supercool cousin Ron Aspinwall I'm able to put it up on my fishing site. Hope you enjoy!
Rory's fish from last Monday. Caught on the fly off the stunning Bandon River.
These three beauties in one day. Are you up for it?
WHO'S UP FOR THE CHALLENGE? A Bass, a Salmon and a Sea Trout in one day. Can it be done? There are "Grandslams" the world over targeting three species of fish in the one day and this has to be up there with the best of them. I will be having a crack at it myself and it would be delighted if you did too! So the gauntlet has been thrown down to Jason Nash, Ken Whelan, Jeff Featherstone, Jim O'Donnell, Andrew Davies, David Norman, The Kildare Bass Bandits and anybody else who fancies a crack at the title! Please give me some feedback if you think this is a worthy endeavour. Hopefully we can come up with a simple set of rules to authenticate the catch.
Due to a broken top section on my Snowbee Torridge it has finally been decommissioned. It was a fabulous rod that landed me many River Bandon salmon. Its replacement came a few days back. A Diamond 2, twelve foot six inches casting a 7/8 line. A big thank you to the team at Snowbee UK. My original rod was covered by Snowbee's unconditional lifetime guarantee and the new one was dispatched promptly, in time for the 2017 season that starts next week. I cannot praise Snowbee enough. Great tackle at very affordable and a unconditional lifetime guarantee. Where can you go wrong?
Done the math on the bass this season if anyone is interested. From the 16th of August until the 2nd of October I had 27 days guiding. 123 bass came to the boat using sandeels and another 19 came to lures. 12 were caught from the shore, again on sandeels totalling 154 bass caught. This worked out at 5.7 bass per outing. Below are some late September fish caught by Patrick Hockley, Max and Paul. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who hired me this season for their support and I sincerely hope to see you again next year.
Three of the twelve fish caught over the last two days with Mark Canning. Tough going at times but you wouldn't want it too easy would ya!
Kennys fish.
We have all heard of the FBI, the CIA , the KKK and the TSB. This weekend I did have the pleasure of meeting the KBB. The Kildare Bass Bandits! Hardcore bass fishing lads that drive long distances, fish from dawn till dusk and then more, kip in their vans and cars and hire me as a guide. I am humbled. Keith and Kenny must have pulled the long straw and we fished the coming tide yesterday afternoon with little wind and no rain. David and Shane got this morning which was the total opposite! All four anglers caught with three fish at six pound and Shane pulled the rabbit out of the hat with our last eel this morning. Well done mate. Seven in total over two four hour sessions. Till next time lads. C'MON THE KBB!
Well, cool shit comes along now and again when you're a fishing guide. My partner in crime (Max Bond) brings top rods over from the UK every season to fish specifically for bass. All I knew about them is that they were excellent fly anglers and fished Grafham Water which was my old stomping ground. It turned out that two of them lived less than five miles away from me, before I moved to Clonakilty and, the other guy? Glen. We went to the same bloody school! Small world. We had over thirty fish for the three days. One was 76 Cm long and without a doubt a double. I'd love to say they were all caught on the fly or lure but none of them was. David was, with no shadow of doubt, the best fly rod I have ever had on my boat. Fabulous three days lads. Thanks.
