Susan Boland Ceramics was established by Susan Boland in 2008 after five years of training. Having trained in the Crafts Council of Ireland's world renowned pottery skills course Susan graduated in the summer of 2008. She then set up her own business as a potter. Susan worked from her studio at home for the first two years, she mainly sold her work at craft fairs around Ireland. Recently Susan has opened a new workshop and retail outlet a Castlecomer Estate Yard.

From her workshop in Castlecomer Susan creates a range of beautiful pottery for all occasions. Each of her pieces is hand thrown and crafted with the greatest care for detail. Inspired by the shapes of simple pottery from times gone by and the natural colours in the landscape around her. The distinctive glazes are uplifting and can fit into every home and lifestyle. One of the main objectives in the pottery that Susan makes is that it is functional. The definition of functional is practical: having a practical application, or serving a useful purpose. Susan makes here work to fit into this definition. She wants her pottery to be used and enjoyed in the home.

The process of making each piece is broken down into many stages, each stage not taking a lot of time but taking up to a week to produce a pot from start to finish. Because the pots are made from stoneware clay and fired to 1300 degrees Celsius they are safe to use in the freezer, dishwasher, oven and microwave.

Susan Boland Ceramics offers a wide selection of work to suit most tastes and Susan is always open to new ideas that customers might have. So whether you are looking for tableware for your own home or that special gift for a wedding or birthday there is plenty to choose from.
