TUCO Tuco is an unusual boy in that he looks like a very large Jack Russell but we are not really sure what his genetic make-up is. He is a lovely, calm friendly boy of about a year old but he doesn't seem to have much experience of the world and will need a new owner who is prepared to show him all there is to know! He is the perfect size family pet but as he can be a little shy at first we are looking for homes with children of 10 years and upwards. Tuco will need a home with people around during the day or a second dog to show him the ropes and to snuggle up to. ****Please note:***** The Facebook team do not handle individual homing requests and cannot answer specific questions regarding any dog as we are not based at the kennels. For details on how to adopt and to fill out an Adoption Questionnaire please see: http://www.madra.ie/rehoming/adoptions If you can help with fostering in the Galway area, please fill out our Fostering Questionnaire here http://www.madra.ie/rehoming/fostering MADRA are based in Camus, Connemara, Co. We owe a very special THANK YOU to Liga and Galarama who recently organised a four course plant based dinner with wine and Prosecco in aid of our rescue dogs!🍜🍽 We arrived hungry and with that same look on our faces we see from the dogs at the shelter when it's breakfast time! ;) Well, we weren't disappointed! Lucky for us diners, the food was beautifully presented and we can confirm that it tasted exquisitely. It was a well thought out menu and a real treat for fans of a plant based diet. Over the din of laughter, the wine flowed freely and plate and plate of delicious food were quickly emptied! It was truly such an enjoyable night and we know that hours and hours of hard work went into making this night so we are incredibly grateful for the support from Mocha Beans. This week Gala presented us with 1,000 e cheque.....we are really and truly over the moon!!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FROM ALL OUR RESCUE DOGS! x x Thanks to everyone who attended and helped make this night a roaring success. A massive thank to all the kind sponsors who are listed below who donated very desirable raffle prizes on the night to help raise funds for our fabulous four-legged friends. ROSSI Rossi is a fabulous chocolate coloured Labradoodle that was surrendered due to an illness in the family. This boy was well loved & well minded and has high expectations of his new owners. He is 5 years old, house-trained, good on the lead, loves people, good with other dogs, neutered, vaccinated etc etc. He wants an indoor home with people around during the day. We have no history of his experience with children so unfortunately he can only go to families with children of 10 years and upwards. We are expecting a lot of interest in this boy so please be patient. It is not a first come, first served system and we do need time to talk to you all. If we are overwhelmed with offers then we will notify you when we are no longer accepting applications. ****Please note:***** The Facebook team do not handle individual homing requests and cannot answer specific questions regarding any dog as we are not based at the kennels. ****Our boy Nick is looking for a foster home ASAP. ***** For most dogs, being relinquished to an animal shelter is a drastic change and a stressful experience. Even though we make every effort possible to make a dog’s time with us as welcoming as possible, it is still often a place where dogs will be confined, separated from their previous families, and exposed to more noise due to the close proximity of other dogs. These environmental changes are very stressful for most dogs. Because of the influence of individual dog personality on behaviuor, signs of stress can vary. Some dogs will hide in the back of the kennel, be less active or stop eating. Some dogs may behave aggressively in response to stress, while other dogs will begin to perform repetitive behaviours, increase their frequency of barking and/or become destructive. Nick is finding shelter life very difficult to cope with. He is frantic in his kennel. He barks constantly once he knows people are nearby and he paws at his gate, desperate to get out. Once he gets taken on long walks away from the kennels, he tends to relax. We'd love to get him into a quiet, adult home for a break from all this stress he is experiencing. It is very difficult for us to assess his true personality at the moment because he is so stressed out. An experienced fosterer can help with this and hopefully help us find a suitable forever home for Nick. Nick will need a secure garden and someone who will give him some time and space to adapt to a home life. We brought him into our on-site log cabin and he did settle a bit but there is just too much activity going on around for him. He wouldn't come inside the door, though he wanted to be with people, so we think he may have been an "outdoor" dog in his previous life. He loves his toys and loves being around people and he needs help. He is around eight years old and he has been with us for two months. Can anyone help this little lad out for a few weeks? ****TO FOSTER**** If you can help with fostering in the Galway area, please fill out our Fostering Questionnaire here http://www.madra.ie/rehoming/fostering MADRA are based in Camus, Connemara, Co. SPOT Spot is one of the many many Collies we get through our doors here. They all have the same bewildered look on their face and for many of them it may be their first time to realise there is another world out there away from the open fields where they grew up. They can take a little time to adjust depending on their age, temperament and life experiences, but we do our utmost to ensure that all of them go on to live full & happy lives. It is hugely important to choose the correct homes for these Collies and not expect them to just fit in with your life just because you love them and want to help. They can find urban living particularly startling and because of this we look for quiet homes with lots of areas away from the noise of cars, busses, schools etc. Spot is a beautiful, kind dog that puts his head on your knee and nuzzles up for a hello when he meets you. He is a little overwhelmed but is not afraid and once he finds his feet, he will turn out to be the most loyal companion you could ever wish for. He is the dog who with one look can make you feel adored like never before. He will make you feel like the person you wish you were...........so step up, you wouldn't want to disappoint him would you? ****Please note:***** The Facebook team do not handle individual homing requests and cannot answer specific questions regarding any dog as we are not based at the kennels. LILLITH Lillith is a very small Jack Russell girl who is possibly about 6 years old. It can be hard to tell, especially as it appears she has not had the easiest of life up to this point. From now on though this girl shall get the star treatment, we will INSIST on it! She is such a wee dote, gentle, friendly and very mannerly. She does not have that very busy & bossy attitude that some of these guys are renowned for and that makes her very easy to live with. She would suit an older person where she would be such good company, plus a good watch dog. Well, maybe not so much a watch dog as she hasn't uttered so much as a woof since arriving here, but once she gains confidence in her new home we are sure she will find her voice. ****Please note:***** The Facebook team do not handle individual homing requests and cannot answer specific questions regarding any dog as we are not based at the kennels. Happy Mother's Day you guys, hope you all had a lovely day with your nearest and dearest; be they 2 legged or 4 legged, be they with you in body or with you in spirit. Now that everyone is chilled and cosy after their nice day, we should all spare a thought for some of the 4 legged Mammies out there, mainly the ones who have had a pretty rotten time of it, and especially the ones who are about to embark on the pathway to motherhood; the time in their lives when they possibly need us most. One such mammy is Janey. A beautiful 18 month old Malinois. She was known to be wandering; living rough, scrounging for bits of food, trying her best to keep body and soul together, for many weeks before she could be caught. She had lived through such nastiness at the hands of us humans that even though she needed food and shelter so very badly, she still wanted nothing to do with us. When she eventually got to us at the kennels she was still very afraid, and was by now VERY pregnant. The poor thing gave birth to 10 babies within a week of arriving to her foster home with the wonderful Sandra. It is a testament to Sandra's loving care that Janey managed to deliver any pups at all, let alone 10! However the days and weeks on the road had taken its toll and Janey lost 2 of her babes. Worst still Janey's previous experiences had left her with absolutly no ability to cope with all that motherhood involves and despite the love and care she received at Sandra's hand, she just couldn't be the mammy she wanted to be. So Sandra and Sarah and Joan stepped in, as they have done in the past, and hand reared Janey's 8 pups. Janey was so heartbroken and indeed heartbreaking. She couldn't rear her pups but neither could she bear to be away from them. Mother Nature can be a hard task master at times. But now, some weeks later, she is at last finding some stability in her life and the real Janey, the one who was hiding in there, behind all the stress and hormones and worry, is starting to show. Janey is a Malinois; a breed that generally does best in the hands of an experienced dog enthusiast. Combine that with her oh so very understandable suspicion of new people and you can see why we are looking for a very special home for her. Janey has started on a training program and has blossomed, even in these early stages. We still feel that an adult only home would be best for her, she doesn't need the stress of dealing with little 2 legged critters ;-)) A fully fenced, secure garden and someone home during the day is really important. A home where the folk have good dog handling skills and where they have lots of dog patiences is a must if Janey is to reach her full potential. She is not terribly high energy and does respond very well to gentle training, plus she is super smart and eager to please. The reward of seeing this gentle, quiet girl recover completely from her trauma? Well, that is just priceless................. ****Please note:***** The Facebook team do not handle individual homing requests and cannot answer specific questions regarding any dog as we are not based at the kennels.
