This Page is about Mulcahy-Redmond & Company Limited or 'Ardfinnan Woollen Mills', which lies on the river Suir in Ardfinnan Co.Tipperary Ireland. Ardfinnan Woollen Mills, trading under messrs 'Mulcahy, Redmond & Co. Ltd.' was founded in Ardfinnan ca.1869.                               Mulcahy-Redmond produced a broad range of woollen products for the consumer, including it's famous Ardfinnan tweeds & suitings.                    It was the only woollen mills in Ireland completing all stages of woollen manufacture, starting from locally sheared wool to a wearable garment.

During WW1 & WW2 it produced khaki uniforms under military contracts.  Uniforms for Aer Lingus, An Garda Síochána, postmen, the British Army and the Irish Defence Forces were produced.  The suits and overcoats provided to Éamon de Valera,  which he wore to the League of Nations at Geneva, were also proudly made at Ardfinnan Woollen Mills.                                                                                                                                Perhaps the most unique product produced by Mulcahy-Redmond was a special motoring coat tailored for H.M. King Edward VII, while at his visit to the mills in 1904, during his state visit to Ireland.

The mills was also of great benefit to the village of Ardfinnan, providing employment to over 220 workers and electricity for streetlights and homes in the surrounding area long before the rural installation of the Electricity Supply Board (ESB).

Mulcahy-Redmond shut down in 1973 after 104 years of production due to a competitive disadvantage, largely arising from Ireland's admission to the EEC.
