For smallholder farmers in India, hybrid seeds that increase yields by up to 30 percent are fortune-changers. Bayer’s researchers are developing hybrid rice varieties that are better able to with stand diseases, extreme climactic variations and new pest attacks.
The Future of Agriculture and Food // The future of food is dependent on a good Public Private Partnership. “At Bayer, we are bringing together the farmers, the scientific community, institutions like Punjab Agricultural University, Maharana Pratap Agriculture University, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and other stakeholders to jointly work on solving challenges and supporting a sustainable approach to agriculture. Our researchers work closely with farmers on the field to ensure end-to-end implementation. We don’t just stop there, we then help to share these best practices within the community. As experts in crop protection, we believe it is our responsibility to bring a smile on the faces of farmers,” says Biswajit Chowdhuri, Head of Field Crops at Bayer, South Asia.
