The season has officially started! The winter was long, cold, dark and the roads were salty. Our last tour in October/November 2016 seems a lifetime ago. Our traditional visit to the IMOT - the international motorbike fair in Munich - has brought an end to the dark times and it palpable that every bikers' heart leapt at the thought of Alpine roads and hairpin bends! Naturally we checked out the latest gear, newest bikes and of course bought stuff and took advantage of the trade fair discount of 10%. For me it was a pair of Daytona Strive GTX boots after having thrashed my previous AlpineStars pair on the road. But why start of the season? Well, for us it is traditionally the opener, looking at new things, thinking about the season ahead, planning our trips. This year we want to take a closer look at Upper Austria and Sardinia, i.e. go there twice or three times to study roads, food & drink, take notes and pictures. Come along and enjoy Europe's greatest biking terrains with us!
Am in Berlin at the mo. Today a lot of police with machine guns around while top politicians do their dark tourism bit. Shocking all round.
First hi - weekend 2017
July 2015
Type: 6 - day hi Group Strength: 4 Distance: 1250 miles We thought we'd go the whole hog, drove through Austria, Italy and France, no motorways, just small stuff. Intense? Oh, yes. But everyone was more than up for it. Rehydration is always important... And then came the French Alps with their dizzying heights. You can tell by our faces. Not only dizzying but dazzling fun as well. [ 157 more words ] http://www.hi-motorbiketours.com/index.php/2016/11/19/july-2015/
June 2016 – South Tyrol, Brenta Group
Just a quickie in the Alps to ride one of my favourites, the Mendel Pass. Plenty on the way as well. Here the Jaufenpass or Passo Giovo at 2094m above sea level. And once one is near Bolzano there are sheer endless options. Unfortunately we couldn't go East towards Sella Ronda but it was stunning nevertheless. October 2016 – Dolomites
Type: hi - weekend Group Strength: 3 Distance: 390 miles Two nights in some of the most fantastic biking territory imaginable. Unfortunately we were not able to do the Sella Ronda due to one pass being closed already. However, there is plenty to keep every biker's heart leap with joy.I've put some of the photos on the home page as they deserve more than just "meagre" post exposure... August 2016 – Upper Austria & Corinthia
Type: hi - weekend Group Strength: 5 Distance: 420 miles Again only a short trip but brilliant nevertheless. For lack of time we hit the motorway before turning off on the wonderful and expansive Obertauern road with its amazing views. For want of crass opposites we hit the Bundschuh road which is not much more than ten feet wide. And then the Nockalm. One Week in Italy – June 2016
Type: 6 - day hi Group Strength: 8 Distance: 1000 miles June, perfect weather everywhere. And I mean, everywhere. Waited for a few mates to come down to Bavaria and we set off via the Alps. We hit Italy in South Tirol and cruised through the Po plain in unearthly temperatures before we hit the Tuscan mountains where we spent our first night. March 2016 in the Czech Republic
Type: hi - weekend Group Strength: 4 Distance: 400 miles It was cold. No, it was freezing. But those were the days before heated grips, of which I now am a very proud and glad owner. Notice the snow??? We crossed the Danube, one of Europe's main waterways, on our way to Cesky Krumlov, an absolutely stunningly beautiful town in the South-West of the country. After our last tour in the Dolomites we got back home with some new material. [ 47 more words ] http://www.hi-motorbiketours.com/index.php/2016/11/16/revamped-website/
