Our very first ITESM student at MIS, Juan Diego Martinez Garza, joined our school for the September-December 2016 semester and quickly became one our top students. Juan Diego, who had the highest possible academic scholarship (beca de excelencia) at ITESM (Campus San Luis Potosi) displayed excellent behavior and achieved an A* (90% or higher) in all of his subjects including some which he studied for the first time in Germany such as physics. As an MIS student, Juan Diego also took part in field trips to Luxembourg, CERN in Switzerland, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt and the Oktoberfest in Munich among others. In order to share his experience and give advice to future students, Juan Diego wrote a letter to those who will soon be taking part in the exchange program and which can be seen in the image below.

Field trip to EUMETSAT – 01/Dec/2016

Yesterday, grade 10 and 12 students were taken by their physics and math teacher Mr. Sanchez to EUMETSAT in Darmstadt where they learned about the importance of understanding the behavior of weather and how it has been monitored for three decades by the organization. The visit included a very informative presentation by Mr. Tusche, who took the time to answer several questions regarding the many challenges faced by scientists in order to obtain accurate information about our planet and who showed the control room of the satellites controlled by EUMETSAT which are currently orbiting the Earth.

Last week, grade 6 students had an interesting activity during their English lesson. Here is the description provided by their teacher Ms. Sönmez: “After reading chapter 10, we wrote an apology letter as Ron Weasley to Hermione for hurting her feelings and getting her almost killed by the mountain troll. In order to put a little muggle magic in our work, we used calligraphy tools to publish our letter.”

During the last holidays, three MIS students from grades 10 and 12 went on a trip to CERN, which gave them an insight into the importance of learning science. These are some of the very interesting notes taken by one of them: "Facts about CMS: - It is the biggest detector of the LHC and weighs twice as much as the Eiffel tower. - Solenoid: A coil through which a current goes, it has superconductivity because it´s cooled to -268.5 C° and thus can generate a magnetic field 100,000 times stronger than the Earth's - Experiments go on for 24 hours since the particles keep going around. They take 25 nanoseconds to go around the 27 km ring, 40,000,000 times a second each collision gives 1 MB of data, that is 40 terabytes per second, 20 hours a day, 300 days a year."

Cambridge International Examinations

"Uni-assist, the organisation responsible for the preliminary review of international university applications for its member institutions, has confirmed the recognition and acceptance of Cambridge International AS & A Levels in Germany. Uni-assist’s main task is to determine whether an applicant’s foreign certificates or qualifications correspond with the recommendations of the Central Office for Foreign Education (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen), an institution of the Ministries of Education and Cultural Affairs, regarding acceptance of these certificates for admission to university study in Germany."
