Description
Only aware can act FAIR - Students for sustainable food and trade The discussion on sustainable trade & food has not progressed so far that the individual can reflect on his own consuming habits and know what he/she could do about it. Our students have only little knowledge of production processes & conditions in the production places. In a world with a great variety on consumption goods, consumer education encourages individuals to analyse and make value-based decisions. It can help students to make decisions linked to wider community issues, such as sustainability.
This project targets secondary schools in DE, FI, LT, PL, TR, PT and is aimed at raising the students’ awareness on food consumption as well as on the need for sustainable development. Students elaborate knowledge on the importance of sustainability and learn about ethical sourcing and sustainable consumption. They investigate the local practices of food factories or restaurants in their region. Concrete strategies which lead to a more sustainable food consumption will be implemented. Educational activities examining fair trade related issues such as poverty, social justice and ethical consumerism will be incorporated into class.
Students explore about what individuals can do to develop a more informed society and sustainable future. They are also given the opportunity to make links between personal, local, national and global issues. Students use the internet confidently and productively to find things out, develop and present ideas, start small scale political debates and communicate with local and global audiences. With this project our students further explore their own habits and places within a changing world. They communicate with people from a range of countries and develop self-awareness and a positive attitude to difference.
