The U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt is home for roughly 11,000 people, including about 4,000 Soldiers, family members, Department of Defense civilian employees and their dependents. Schweinfurt is a beautiful city located in the German state of Bavaria and its Lower Franconia region, rich with history, culture, and a long relationship and partnership with the American military.
The U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt is home for roughly 11,000 people, including about 4,000 Soldiers, family members, Department of Defense civilian employees and their dependents.
The military community is located on two installations and two housing areas and includes a local training area that offers a variety of training grounds and facilities for both tenant and transient units.
Ledward Barracks, within the city limits, is home to the garrison headquarters and several of its agencies, including Army Community Service and the Ledward Library, which was named the best in Europe. In addition to the 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment; the 9th Engineer Battalion; the 44th Expeditionary Signal Battalion; and the Schweinfurt U.S. Army Health Clinic; Ledward Barracks also houses the Army and Air Force Exchange Service PX and Shoppette, Community Bank, Andrews Federal Credit Union, and a German bakery.
Conn Barracks, just beyond the city limits to the west, is home to more garrison agencies, including the in-and out-processing center, as well as the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment (Airborne); 15th Engineer Battalion; 172nd Support Battalion; Staff Judge Advocate and much more. Conn Barracks also includes a 24-hour shopette and gas station, the veterinary clinic , the Finney Fitness and Recreation Center, which was named the best in Europe, and the Auto Skills Center, which was named the best Auto Skills Center in the Army.
In addition to being Schweinfurt’s largest housing area, Askren Manor is the site of the Schweinfurt Elementary School, School Age Services and Child Development Centers, and the commissary.
Finally, Yorktown Village Housing Area also includes the Schweinfurt Middle School, Kessler Bowling Center and Batting Cages, and Kessler Fitness Center.
