One of our parents is organizing an Autism March next Tuesday. The march starts at 10am on Vogelweh Base across from the youth center. (Elementary school side) from there the group will walk down and around the school picking up a special needs class and continuing down to the large playground across the street from the CDC. Located there (while supplies last) are autism awareness "swag" information provided by EFMP and snacks from the USO. AFT might stop by too. Children can play until 12 or 1pm. Everyone is welcome!!!

Just last week a boy that comes to our center increased the foods he would eat from 5 to 10... we used escape extinction procedures following interventions published by Cathleen Piazza. The intervention itself does not look pretty and leaves both kid and therapist exhausted and teary ... but when you have a boy with weight in the 5 % and you want him to accept double the variety of foods and double the calories ... pretty is the first thing you throw out the door. Thank you, Ariana Baldevia, for being my partner in this!! I am grateful that there are families who trust our work.

“It is much better for us and our children when we aim to be ourselves rather than try to “do the right thing”. Parents who are authentic are better parents than those who try to be theoretical parents. Parents who make mistakes and take responsibility for their mistakes are better parents than those who try to be perfect. Parents who strive for perfection will always make their children feel like failures and children who feel like failures often end up failing.” ― Jesper Juul, Here I am!
