The Dry Lands Project e.V. is a small initiative, which was founded by the German Frank Lieneke in January 2005 to help parentless and unattended children in Sri Lanka.

In August 2006 the organization established its first own facility: A childrens home for girls in Marawila, about 60 km north of the capital Colombo. In the first years the childrens home consisted of a rented object with capacity for 20 children. In the year 2009 the organization acquired its own property and managed to build within 1,5 years a new and modern childrens home with numerous vocational rooms and capacity for 60 children.  

At the moment 52 children at the age from 5 to 18 years are living in the so called „Angels Home for Children“ to receive an affectionate caring by local staff and volunteers from Germany. Furthermore the girls get the opportunity to use a wide variety of educational and leisure facilities. This includes:
-   Tutoring in the subjects English, Mathematics, Science and Sinhala
-   Lessons in the traditional Kandy-Dance
-   Library service and reading hours in the home library
-   Tailoring lessons with a local teacher
-   Computer lessons
-   Creative activities

The Dry Lands Project e.V. is also trying to support the girls after they attain the legal age to ensure an independent and financial secure future for them.

Frank Lieneke and his partner Julia Fischer are continuously on site to guarantee an optimal caring for the children and an efficient use of the funds.

The initiative is self-financing itself through private donations and sponsor parents. This turns out to be difficult in consideration of size and awareness level of the organization.

Das Dry Lands Project e.V. ist eine kleine Initiative, die im Januar 2005 von dem Deutschen Frank Lieneke ins Leben gerufen wurde und sich um elternlose und vernachlässigte Kinder in Sri Lanka kümmert.

Im August 2006 konnte der Verein seine erste eigene Einrichtung eröffnen: ein Kinderheim für Mädchen in Marawila, ca. 60 km nördlich der Hauptstadt Colombo. In der ersten Jahren wurde die Einrichtung in einem Mietobjekt mit Kapazitäten für bis zu 20 Kinder realisiert. Im Jahr 2009 erwarb die Organisation ein eigenes Grundstück und baute innerhalb von 1,5 Jahren ein neues und modernes Kinderheim mit zahlreichen Ausbildungsräumen, welches nun Platz für 60 Kinder bietet.

Momentan leben 58 Kinder im Alter von 5 bis 18 Jahren im sogenannten „Angels Home for Children“ und bekommen eine liebevolle Betreuung durch einheimisches Pflegepersonal und ehrenamtliche Mitarbeiterinnen aus Deutschland. Weiterhin haben die Mädchen die Möglichkeit, vielfältige Bildungs- und Freizeitangebote zu nutzen. Dazu gehören beispielsweise:
