Chlorosis is a nutritional disorder in plants characterized by a significant decrease of chlorophyll in leaves. When caused by iron (Fe) deficiency, the supply can be optimized. MS Medium formulations are available in modifications to handle this problem, e.g. article number MD133. This modification by Van der Salm et al. (1994) has shown to be an effective revision of the original MS formulation, improving long term iron supply. Another possibility is the usage of a novel chelating agent, HBED. Fe-HBED has a stability constant which is several times higher than the Fe-EDDHA used in MD133 (López-Rayo 2009).
