1889 bis 2015 Diese Seite informiert Sie über den berühmten und einmaligen Prinzregenten-Bahnhof zu Füssen.

This page shows our famous and beautiful railwaystation in the town of Fuessen.
It has been builded 1888 in the romantic alpine style for the first railwayline  (Localbahn Actiengesellschaft) which leds to the highest located town of the Kingdom of Bavaria (808 mts. or approx. 2.400 ft.) near of the nowdays world famous castle Neuschwanstein.

The first "passanger" was the mother of his majesty Ludwig II., Mary of Prussia, which died May 17th 1889 at her private castle of Hohenschwangau nearby.

Later on it has been visited by a very large number of crowned people such as his majesty the Prince regent of Bavaria Luitpold II., the King and Queen of the British Empire, the Sha of Persia and many more.

Unfortunately the station had been changed and modernized in the late 1930s and gets a plaster on it.
But the original drystonewall and the timber framework as shown on the picture are still existing underneath the concreate plaster.

In the year 1962 the town and the station of Fuessen get´s world famous through the John-Sturges-movie "The Great Escape" with Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Richard Attenborough, James Coburn and many more.

As the Deutsche Bahn AG (German Railway PLC) sold most of their smaller stations in Germany it became part to the Hubert Schmid Building company from Marktoberdorf since 2011.

In summer 2014 our remarkable station will be destroyed and replaced through a glas and concreate conveniend center if no wonder is coming thrue.

It would be just splendid if we can preserve this gem for the future and safe it from destroying because the first train which operated the line Fuessen - Marktoberdorf is still existing and working! It´s from the Lokomotivfabrik Krauss & Cie from Munich and named "Fuessen".
