Now it is official.. The United States has declared the withdrawal from Paris Climate Agreement - althought they are one of the largest industrializations that are responsible for the 2nd-largest emissions of climate-damaging CO2. The Paris agreement is seen as a milestone in combating climate change. As far as the prospect of a US exit, the Paris Agreement was a world-wide project: 195 states, and thus the entire world community, had become aware of the follow-up agreement of the Kyoto Protocol. Hopefully no other countries will follow this example. In order to fight climatechange, it is essential that all industrializations worldwide minimize man-made global warming to below 2 degrees versus preindustrial times.

Just in time for the start of the summer on Wednesday, Germany experiences the first longer heat wave of the year. In May and June there have already been heat waves in parts of Europe, North Africa and the USA. On average, the global average temperature in the five months to the end of May, according to calculations by the US weather authority NOAA, was the second highest since the records began 130 years ago. Besides the joy of a sunny summer we shouldn' t forget that in 2003 70,000 people died as a result of an extreme heat wave. Governments, cities and communities should therefore take precautionary measures to protect people.

Getting out of the climate agreement is a really bad idea for a country where many people are afraid of immigration of other countries: Climate is today already the main cause of escape. In the year 2015 14.7 million people fled from floods, storms + droughts - in contrast to that 8,6 million people fled from war and violence

The fight against climate change is a global justice project - especially because, above all, those that are least responsible suffer most from the consequences of climate change. Extreme drought, flood, destruction of fishing grounds and farmland can not be prevented or mitigated in poor countries. The climate agreement from Paris contains therefore many points to transfer energy technology to all and to support poor countries in the development of protective measures. We close our today's post with a quote of a German politician: You can get out of the climate deal, but you can't escape climate change.
