A global player
With products and solutions deployed in over 140 countries, Huawei is serving more than one third of the world's population. In 2011, it recorded revenues of $32.4 bn, a year-on-year increase of 11.7 %. In 2012, Huawei's sales revenue reached around $35.4 bn, a year-on-year increase of around 8%. Of this revenue, 66 % came from outside China.
Huawei has invested a total of $19.3 bn in R&D over the past 10 years, including a $4.8 bn investment in 2012, accounting for more than 13 % of the year’s revenue.
It has over 150 000 employees, 45 % of whom specialise in R&D. Around 73 % of its overseas employees are recruited locally.
Huawei has joined over 150 standards organisations, in which it currently holds more than 180 positions. In 2012, it filed over 5 000 standards proposals. It filed a total of 41 948 patent applications in China, 12 453 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications and 14 494 patent applications outside of China. A total of 30 240 patent applications have been granted.
