Description
Decad is a not-for-profit art space in Berlin which takes as its focus the reciprocity between contemporary art, critical discourse and public space. Decad was founded in London in 2012 as a vehicle for interdisciplinary collaboration in the organisation of lectures and exhibitions, later opening a permanent space in Berlin in 2014. With an especial emphasis on discursive roles in the distinct productions of contemporary art and public space, Decad works to advance an understanding of the mutual influence of these industries, both in and outside of their direct interaction via public works.
Located at Südstern, Decad hosts an active programme of artist talks and critical lectures; maintains a growing research library and archive; organises the commissioning of temporary projects for public spaces in Berlin by international artists; and invites guest curators to intervene with group exhibitions that fit Decad's broader project.
In 2015, as an extension of its scope, Decad will launch Press LMP, a digital publishing house dedicated to the publication of critical writing on contemporary art, architecture and urbanism.
