Petra-Jordan News Agency/ Berlin Economic Forum 2016 Jordan is a country of aspiration despite regional turmoil, Senate President http://www.petra.gov.jo/Public_News/Nws_NewsDetails.aspx?Site_Id=1&lang=2&NewsID=242630&CatID=13&Type=Home>ype=1 Berlin, March 12 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Al Fayez on Saturday said that "foreigners who visit Jordan must be wondering about its secret achievements, although it is located in a conflicts region like of which the world has never seen". Addressing the Berlin Economic Forum, organized by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy to discuss sustainable development, innovation and excellence topics, Al Fayez said "a visitor to Jordan realizes the determination of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanians to continue leading the country to success". The forum is of great importance as it comes in a time the fourth industrial revolution began shaping and the people welfare will be to those who have the ability to excel, Senate President said, adding that, the event is well-timed as a number of world countries experience serious political and socioeconomic conditions. He pointed in this regard to children who live below the internationally accepted poverty line and to nearly 750 million of people who lack access to safe, fresh drinking water, 60 million refugees or displaced people who escaped wars and conflicts. Al Fayez explained that there are around 100 million children who got no education, 785 million people, mostly women, worldwide are considered functionally illiterate as well as 200 million unemployed people. He noted that most of these facts can be found in developing countries, Middle East and North Africa. Jordan, despite these facts and being located in a region of turmoil, is a country of aspiration and visions, he said, and cited the Kingdom's development model which deserves international high praise in light of security and political conditions besetting the region. This model, he said, encompasses political, economic and social development avenues and aspires to access state-of-the-art global technology. Al Fayez explained that Jordan faces economic woes as a result of the massive influx of refugees to it who hold substantial strain on the national systems and infrastructure. The cost of hosting the Syrian refugees during the 2011-2015 period is estimated at around $6.6 billion and it is expected to go up to $8 billion in the coming two years, he said, adding that the government is bearing the greater part of this big financial burden.
