http://www.eonerc.rwth-aachen.de Viewing things in one dimension according to the maxim “if…then!” is totally out of place when regarding complex systems. Instead, a holistic approach ought to predominate in solving problems. An increased use of renewable energy resources, for example, requires novel concepts for the grid integration of this energy whose generation often cannot be exactly planned. In the research regarding CO2-sequestration, the problems involved in storing CO2 must not be underestimated. And if one aims at influencing the energy consumption habits of people, one should also be able to estimate the resulting effects on the entire energy system. Consequently, energy research must not only concentrate on solutions of individual technical problems. It is much more important to devise comprehensive interdisciplinary approaches to and studies of complex questions. Thus, the professorships of the E.ON Energy Research Center are distributed among the four faculties of electrical engineering and computer science, business and economics, mechanical engineering as well as georesources and materials science.
