HSS Classic Yacht Committee represents one of the largest fleets of classics in the world. We celebrate and endorse sailing and racing with Classic Yachts. With 80 boats Helsingfors Segelsällskap r.f. (HSS) has one of the largest fleet of classic yachts in Europe. Our wish is to celebrate, support and promote classic yacht sailing, racing and restoration. We work in close cooperation with yacht clubs and classic yacht societies in Finland and worldwide. We endeavour to maintain our cultural and sailing heritage and hope to see classic yacht racing continually thriving in our waters. The largest contingency of the classic fleet consists of the International Rule classes. The club has a large fleet of 8 Metre, 6 Metre, 5.5 Metre and international 5 Metre boats. Skerry cruisers, Nordic Folkboats, Classic Dragons, Hai boats and classic Cruising yachts are also well represented. The classic motor boat and yacht fleet is small but growing.
The club is an active partner of the Scandinavian Classic Yacht Trust, that organizes the Baltic Classic Master regatta circuit. The regattas are at the present organized in Sweden, and Russia. The HSS classics are organized within the HSS Classic Yacht Committee (CYC). The annual international HSS Classic Yacht Symposium is organized by HSS CYC in collaboration with the Helsinki International Boat Show.
HSS also organizes a major Classic Regatta - the "Champangne regatta" - officially the Baltic Classic Master Cup Helsinki - annually at the beginning of August.

Good news for the classics! On the photo Pekka Ervamaa and his A-boat Filou. Keel plank renovation was made last winter by Mika Louhivaara. HSS member Sven Peacock owned Filou for a long time.

This picture is of 12 Metres racing in Flensburg in 2015. The Twelves were also racing on the same race course with 25 5.5 Metres and 45 Six Meters on Flensburg Fjord during the tune up regatta prior to the 2013 Six Meter Worlds. The area is not bigger than the racing area in front of Merisatama (if we mark the three shallow spots with buoys and mark them as obstacles in Sailing Instructions).

Hermione säätiön johtaja Guy Gautreau on Suomessa esitelmämatkalla ja puhuu Turussa, Hämeenlinnassa, Tampereella ja Helsingissä Ranska-seuroissa. Guy Gautreau on lupautunut pitämään esitelmän myös HSS:llä 6.9. kello 18:00. Tilaisuus on maksuton ja avoin kaikille ja se tulkataan suomeksi. Lautta (menopaluu 6 euroa) HSS:lle merisatamanrannasta 20 minuutin välein. Tilaisuus HSS klubihuoneessa. FREGATTI HERMIONE Markiisi Lafayette purjehti fregatti Hermionella Amerikkaan keväällä 1780 mukanaan kuninkaan lupaus George Washingtonille 5000 miehen apujoukkojen lähettämisestä ja tämä kevyt 32 kanuunan fregatti Hermione osallistukini useaan taisteluun USA:n itsenäisyyssodassa Englantia vastaan 1780-1781. Menneiden aikojen laivaston rakentamiseen tarvittava infrastruktuuri, esim. Ranskan pisin rakennus, kuninkaallinen köysipunomo on tallella Rochefortissa vain alus puuttui. 1990-luvulla päätettiin rakentaa replika aikakauden sotalaivasta ja nimenomaan kenraali Lafayetten kuuluisaksi tekemästä kevyestä fregatista. Alkuperäinen Hermione rakennettiin 1778 11 kuukaudessa Rocherfort:in arsenaalissa. Rakennustyöt käynnistyivät 1997 ja alus kosketti ensimmäisen kerran suolaista vettä 2014. Hermione säätiön johtaja on maassamme kertomassa Hermione-hankkeesta, laivasta, sen historiasta ja rakentamisesta, varustelusta ja valmiin replikan matkoista.
