AUTISM INSIGHTS. Yesterday People Like Us had the honor to meet Árni, Steini and Valgerdur from Klettaskóli, a school in Reykjavik for autists and for kids with severe disabilities. They gave us a tour on their school, which houses 130 children. Right now they’re rebuilding the school in order to make it more accessible for wheelchairs, and for sensory needs. We got to meet several of the kids and the teachers; a really inspiring experience. So much good energy, and prioritizing of sensory rooms and places to withdraw. Steini from Mikkeller, who’s showing us around in Iceland these days, totally felt in love with the remedy chair full of plastic Balls which soothes you and makes you calm. During the evening, a whole group of teachers came to the bar to hear more about People Like us and what we do, and for the second day in a row, we enjoyed the company of Sigrún from Einhverfa, the national icelandic autism organisation, and her husband. It was really interesting to hear about the autism situation on Iceland and share our Icelandic / danish experiences. Great job they’re doing up here!

Throwback to our very first STRIK&DRIK event by PLUC - People Like Us Club at Peders - Pisserendens ølkælder this Wednesday evening. And yes, it was just as Cosy, fun and damn challenging as it seems. . A great mix of men and women, very experienced knittters and people who had never touched knitting pins before, age variation from sixteen to mid sixties. . Someone learned about knitting, someone got extra insights to challenge their view on the world and the people in it. Thank you for an amazing evening! Can’t wait for next strik&drik event! . At People Like Us we aim to promote and develop autistic creativity and individuality. Therefore we'd like you to meet Bjarke - our dancing accounting assistant-, here participating in a national campaign for understanding disabled and neurodivergent beings as individuals rather than mere manifestations of static conditions. . "I take dancing very serious. I usually say that I have "autistically practiced" all the steps. Even though I've only been dancing for four years, it would take a non-autistic 10 years to reach the same level. Last year, I got 2nd at the Danish Championship in ballroom dancing. . In my daily life I help with accounting at People Like Us. It is a socio-innovative brewing company where autists perform most of the tasks. I am very good at accounting - I can multiply six-digit numbers without a calculator and I overlook numbers easily. . Soon we'll start up a new project at the brewery, where we're going to brew new beers with a dancing theme. I am going to choreograph a "cha cha cherry" and a "mango tango".
